"Nightmare On Elm Street" Gets Another Remake?

Every day, we are seemingly bombarded by news of remake after remake, sometimes they jazz it up and call it a reboot or a re-imagining, but that's code for Hollywood is afraid to sink money into original ideas. So imagine the shock of the world today when it was announced that New Line has decided to remake the original 'Nightmare On Elm Street'. Again. Apparently, we weren't the only ones that didn't care for the remake. You might remember the remake in 2010 that featured actor Jackie Earle Haley as slasher Freddy Krueger, the maniacal teen murderer that killed the kids of Springwood in their dreams. While Haley provided a unique spin on the character, the film was not received well at all, by fans or critics. While the films of the original series presented Freddy (played iconically by Robert Englund) in a somewhat more fantastical, over the top way, the remake painted a darker picture, having him spout less one-liners and focusing more on his past as an accused child molester. It had some unique elements, but ultimately fell into the too familiar tropes of the other generic horror remakes of the time, and failed to connect with audiences. While nothing concrete is known about the project, we do know that the story is being written by former 'Walking Dead' writer David Leslie Johnson, who is also writing James Wan's sequel to 'The Conjuring', as well as a slew of other genre projects. If I had to guess, I'd assume that with the disdain for the remake, New Line is going to want to go for something totally different and original, something that stands on it's own. That remains to be seen, however, as the Hollywood slate is also filled to the brim with new versions of fellow horror franchises 'Friday the 13th', 'Halloween', 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre', and 'Hellraiser', in the very near future. Apparently, what's old *is* new again, after all... Sources: Bloody Disgusting Tracking-Board.com
