"This is all I ever wanted for you, Will. For both of us"- Hannibal Lecter to Will Graham in the season 3 finale.
The show that I love so much has sadly come to an end, and what a great ending it was. Season 3 of Hannibal was amazing. If you've ever read any of the books or seen any of the movies, you will notice many similarities.
Season 3 began where season 2 left off. Will Graham(Hugh Dancy) was gutted, Abigail Hobbs (Kacey Rohl) had her throat slashed, Alana Bloom (Caroline Dhavernas) was pushed out of a window and Jack Crawford (Laurence Fishburne) had a giant piece of glass sticking out of his carotid artery. Hannibal and Dr. Bedelia Du Maurier (Gillian Anderson) are sitting in first class on a 747 sipping champagne, heading to Florence, Italy.
This season was so great because so many episodes were written for season 4 and with the cancelation from NBC, we had so much story for season 3. Never a dull moment. With other TV shows I sometimes come across episodes where I was like "ok we didn't need this episode". Like in "Breaking Bad" where Walter spends a whole episode trying to kill a fly.
In season 3 we see Hannibal living in Florence, Italy with Will and Jack on the hunt for Hannibal. This is taken from the Hannibal movie. Jack and Hannibal have a fight again. Jack literally beats the shit out of Hannibal. I loved this fight, it was so well done. I loved the fight they had in season 2 finale, but this one was just amazing.
We are introduced to the Red Dragon story arc, from the Red Dragon book. The Great Red Dragon(Richard Armitage) idolizes Hannibal Lecter, up until he realizes that to be better than him he must kill him.
What I love about the writing on this show is that they take everything we know about the movies and the books and mash them all up together and rewrite everything. We know all the characters, but it's a completely new story line.
The season finale was beautiful. Will and Hannibal team up to kill the Red Dragon together. Both men wounded. Hannibal shot and Will having multiple stab wounds. The song "love crime" by Siouxsie Sioux playing in the back ground during the final fight. I love what they did with all the blood. When the Red Dragon is beaten he lays on the floor and his blood spilts to make a pair of dragon wings.
Season 3 is the last season in Hannibal for NBC. What the writing team did was leave us with an open ending. Not a cliffhanger, but an open ending.... Meaning that, if no other network picks up this amazing show it will have its ending. If by some chance another network does decides to pick it up it can easily continue.
