What can we expect to see this festive season?
The lead up to the holiday season is without doubt the best time of year to be a gamer. Starting in October then through November and December we are used to being treated to a steady flow of high profile games, some of which we have waited the entire year to get our hands on. That said, with Sony in particular, the lack of any major exclusive title for the festive period and most notably the delay of Uncharted 4 is disappointing. It will be interesting to see if Sony can come up with any surprise announcements at the Paris Games in late October. Microsoft will be confident of a good festive period with Halo 5 and their timed exclusive Rise Of The Tomb Raider coming out in November.
So what does the gaming world have to offer us over the next few months? Here’s a look at what you will be able to buy before the end of the year.
Starting in October is Uncharted The Nathan Drake Collection for PS4. The remastered trilogy will look great on the next gen console and will help soften the blow of having A Thief’s End delayed until next year. Assassins Creed Syndicate will be a big title on multi platform and finally at the end of the month Halo 5 will hit the shelves for Xbox one which is arguably their biggest title of the year. According to previews there won’t be multiple endings but different ways to explore the story and looks like it will be just as popular as previous titles.
November looks set to be the biggest month out of the three with quite a few big titles, starting with Call Of Duty: Black Ops III and Fallout 4. Black Ops looks set to freshen up the CoD franchise with new features and full customisation available. Fallout 4 looks impressive and will hopefully be worth the 5 year wait. For racing fans, Need For Speed is back with a whole range of different options to customise your car. If street racing is your thing it looks like its stepping up to the mark again. Being a PS4 owner I’m going to have to be patient and wait for Rise Of The Tomb Raider which is coming out this November on Xbox One as a timed exclusive. Looks stunning and will be another great edition to the series. Of course last but not least is one of the most anticipated games of the year - Star Wars: Battlefront. Will it be the definitive Star Wars game?
Promising more destruction and explosions than the previous two titles is Just Cause 3 which will be released December 1st on PS4, XBOX One and PC. This game is the master of open worlds and judging from the previews and trailers looks set to be another hit for Avalanche Studios.
Hitman is a strange one as it has a release date of December 8th but as a digital download only. They will add to it throughout 2016, how well this will be received remains to be seen.
Finally for the Wii U Xenoblade Chronicles X which is already out in Japan will be released on December the 4th.
So all in all still a decent line up of games to end 2015. Throw in Mad Max and Metal Gear Solid 5 which are out now and there will without doubt be something for everyone to have their eye on.
