The World's Largest Arcade Is So Big You Stand on a Chair
Jason Camberis is a 44-year-old network engineer who builds and sells custom arcade machines and security systems for a living. But for his true masterpiece, he created something to channel his childhood: A giant arcade cabinet that would make anyone feel small. It was just certified as the biggest arcade machine in the world by Guinness World Records.
The machine, which was verified on March 23, 2014, checks in at precisely 4.41 meters tall, 1.93 meters wide, and has a depth of 1.06 meters. For those of us more accustomed to imperial units, that mean Camberis' creation is about 15 feet tall and 6 feet wide. Camberis said he intentionally designed the thing to be about 2.75 times bigger than a regular cabinet. People typically have to stand on stairs just to reach the controls. The machine even accepts oversized "quarters" to play.
The cabinet comes with all the usual accouterments associated with an arcade cabinet, like a trackball and joysticks, and it can play more than 200 games. That big screen must make for one giant centipede in, er, Centipede.
