The Garbage Pail Kids Movie Coming to Blu-ray

October 23, 2015

The Garbage Pail Kids, in case you're under 35, were a snotty, gross-out parody of '80s merchandising sensations, the sickly-sweet Cabbage Patch Kids. Of course, the Garbage Pail Kids trading cards, which featured grotesque, nightmarish versions of Cabbage Patch's own weirdness with pun-tastic names that wouldn't have made the cut on Assistant Editor's day at Mad Magazine, were a sensation of their own, loathed by parents and often confiscated by teachers (along with cassettes of License to Ill and Appetite for Destruction)...which actually made them kind of cool.

But nobody, and I mean nobody, liked The Garbage Pail Kids Movie. Not even its target audience of pre-teen wiseass gross-out artistes. Part of the problem that, as hastily as the movie was thrown together, by 1987, the fad was already on the downswing. Kids had moved on, and the relatively tame antics of the movie didn't exactly capture the glorious stupidity of the trading cards and stickers. Needless to say, it flopped.

Here's the official synopsis...

Your favorite grime bandits come to life with all the farts, snot and vomit you can take in this hilarious film full of "gross-out humor" (The New York Times). Based on the wildly popular and irreverent trading cards, The Garbage Pail Kids® Movie stars Mackenzie Astin (Iron Will, Wyatt Earp) as a perfectly nice teenager who discovers the Kids...to his great disgust!

When Dodger (Astin) accidentally releases the Kids from their magical trash can prison, all smell breaks loose. Despite their offensive personal habits – and attitude problems – Dodger soon becomes fond of the Kids. But when Messy Tessie, Foul Phil, Valerie Vomit and the whole misfit crew join his fight against thuggish bullies, their efforts just might land them behind bars at the State Home for the Ugly!

This grossly entertaining cult classic features great makeup effects by John Carl Buechler (Troll, Dolls, Ghoulies) and co-stars Phil Fondacaro (Troll, Ghoulies II), Katie Barberi (Ferris Bueller's Day Off) and singer/songwriter Anthony Newley (Doctor Dolittle).

The realease date is December 08, 2015
