Harrison Ford to Return as Indiana Jones? Yes Please!
Ever since Disney bought Lucasfilm, people have been talking about Star Wars and how they hope it’s not “Disney-fied” with cute characters and a toned-down Star Wars universe. What you don’t hear much of is that Lucasfilm also includes the Indiana Jones franchise and while there have been a few rumors about who will don the fedora for the fifth Indiana Jones movie, none have suggested that the one, the only, Harrison Ford would reprise his role.
Coming from Den of Geek, producer Frank Marshall says they’re not recasting the part at all for the next installment:
“There are a lot of rumors,” Marshall said. “We haven’t even sat down to talk about Indy yet…at some point we’ll sit down. But there’s a bunch of people who could probably take the baton…We’re not doing the Bond thing where we’re going to call somebody else Indiana Jones…we have to figure this out.”
So it sounds as if they want to keep Harrison Ford on, at least for now which is good because he has said that he is keen to reprise the role. Steven Spielberg recently admitted himself that he will “probably” do a fifth Indiana Jones film, though no further details have surfaced and in this writer’s personal opinion, Spielberg’s confession may just be wishful thinking. Nothing is confirmed so take that with a grain (or two) of salt.
Hopefully, Spielberg will be put in a position to direct a fifth movie and a new screenwriter is hired to give us a fresh, yet familiar take on our beloved Indy. I also hope that Spielberg has listened to the criticisms about the last Indiana Jones movie and taken some notes.
