JJ Abrams has been known for his secrecy, not to mention not telling the truth when it comes to his movies. He lied about Khan in his latest Star Trek movie and then was remorseful about it, citing studio pressure. This time, with the Disney Mouse over his shoulder, one would think it's not 100% true even though JJ, himself said there would be no end credits scene.
Today, at a global press conference for TFA, Abrams confirmed there will be no such sequence after the movie is over. Many have speculated that we would see a preview or scene from either Rian's Johnson's Episode VIII or Gareth Edwards' Rogue One but only time will tell come December 17th or earlier if you are lucky enough to see The Foce Awakens in another country.
When asked about if there were any scenes or easter eggs after the end credits, JJ said,
“No there’s not.”
Another tidbit from this press conference is that Kathleen Kennedy confirmed that Episode VIII will start shooting in January 2016. I can't wait for the leaks!
When asked about Maz Kanata and Yoda, JJ said,
“I do believe that Maz and Yoda at one point crossed paths, but of course do the events of the past films, that’s not something we’ll see in this one.”
When asked if there were any Ewoks or Gungans in TFA, JJ said,
“No, there are no ewoks in this film. But there are a lot of them in Return of the Jedi”
When Kathleen Kennedy was asked what's not in the new movie, she said,
“Jar Jar is definitely not in the movie. Ewoks are not in the movie – that was because Harrison insisted.”
Personally, I don't think there will be an end credits scene because I don't think Disney wants to confuse or overwhelm people with too much Star Wars, especially Rogue One, a movie that takes place circa 40 years before TFA. Either way, we are so close to a new Star Wars movie I can feel the excitement growing.
