Awesome Games Done Quick 2016: Charity Done Right
Awesome Games Done Quick is an event that takes places twice a year. This charity event is a competition showcasing the speedrunning community. This is the 3rd time I’ve watched the event, and it gets better each time. There is a variety of games that are done during the event, and more importantly, these runs aren’t simply speedruns of games. While there were standard speedruns, there were also some interesting variations. One of my personal favorites was a race between two speedrunners playing Punchout for the NES. Did I mention that the speedrunners were blindfolded?
At the moment, the event has raised roughly 1.1 million towards fighting cancer. These events always bring in ridiculous amounts of money. The concept of watching speedruns may seem foreign to many gamers. However, the way these people break games is absolutely fascinating. Runners utilize different exploits and glitches to minimize the time that is spent. The games ranged from recent hits like Bloodborne to obscure titles like Lagoon for the SNES. It is one of the most fascinating things to watch for a lifelong gamer, and the fact that it is done for a great cause only enhances how amazing this event is. Check out some of the highlights below.
