Harry Potter and the Cursed Child: What we know so far!
Harry Potter never went away, but recently it’s being brought up in the news more often. Fans have been waiting 5 years to have something else that follows Harry Potter and his friends after Hogwarts and this September there now is, and here’s what we know!
This fall, the theatre performance, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child will debut in London. For most people who don’t live anywhere close to the United Kingdom it seems a bit unfair, but I have good news!
Not only will there be a play, but the script will also become available in book format for everyone to grab a copy and read to their heart’s content. However, this won’t be the same as having another book written by J. K. Rowling. In fact, it isn’t even written by Rowling herself.
Jack Thorne, a well-known playwright in the theatre industry, will write up the theatre script. Based on a story J. K. Rowling wrote, the script was handed off to professional playwrights to draft up. This isn’t just any typical theatre performance either. The play itself is an all-day event and is broken into two showings, both matinee and evening. This performance is guaranteed to be long and could possibly be over four hours!
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child follows Harry Potter’s story nineteen years later, after the Battle of Hogwarts. It is the eighth instalment of the franchise that Harry Potter nerds know, love and have been waiting five years to arrive. Harry Potter, an overworked ministry worker deals with his issues of the past, and his son has to deal with problems left behind from his father’s legacy. Plot wise, everything else is unknown and all fans have to wait and see what will be revealed over time.
We also know a bit about the cast. Everyone wanted to know who was playing the most well-known characters Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger. A now middle aged Harry Potter is played by Jamie Parker. Ron Weasley’s character will be performed by Paul Thorley, and Noma Dumezweni will play the ever so wonderful Hermione Granger.
Tuesday, March 7th the casting website Spotlight added a fourth character to the list, Scorpius Malfoy. Draco and Astoria Malfoy’s son will be played by Anthony Boyle another accredited actor, and professional playwright. Many people would have preferred hearing who would play more of the Potter family, but there is still plenty of time left before the performance debuts.
What else does the general public know about Harry Potter and the Cursed Child? Nothing else, but as the clock counts down, and rehearsals continues people will wait and keep their eyes peeled for more information as it comes out.
