Can Xbox and Playstation Users Get Along?

And now a story of love.

My friend Dominic and I love playing video games. I usually tell him I prefer to play all my sport games and shooters on Xbox. But unlike me his console of choice is PS4. And there you have it. Two awesome friends that would love to play with each other, but cant because of preferred systems. IT SHOULDN’T BE THIS WAY! Gaming with friends should never be about exclusivity or platform segregation. So when Microsoft announce today about cross-network play I jumped for joy. I sent Dominic a link today about it and we both lit up.

Chris Charla Director of ID@Xbox stated today:

“First, in addition to natively supporting cross-platform play between Xbox One and Windows 10 games that use Xbox Live, we’re enabling developers to support cross-network play as well. This means players on Xbox One and Windows 10 using Xbox Live will be able to play with players on different online multiplayer networks – including other console and PC networks.

Of course, it’s up to game developers to support this feature, and Xbox Live players will always have the option of choosing to play only with other Xbox Live players. We’re thrilled to confirm that Psyonix’s Rocket League will be one of the first games to take advantage of this new capability by enabling cross-network play between Xbox One and PC players, with an open invitation for other networks to participate as well.”

Rocket League is a crowd favorite, particular of Dominic and mine. Personally, I am thinking of the endless opportunities game developers will now have. Cross-network play can also stem awesome competition to see what system gamers use. We don’t know what date this will take effect. We don’t know if any other games that will do what Rocket League is doing. But what we do know is regardless if you’re PC or Xbox or PlayStation or whatever, gamers win.
