With Deadpool being a success, Preacher gaining positive buzz, and Outcast posing to fill the horror gap that the Walking Dead leaves comes an announcement of a new R-rated comic based show coming to Cinemax. The show comes from the writer and star of “Green Hornet” Seth Rogen and producing partner Evan Goldberg. This suits the pair because just like “Preacher,” “The Boys” was created and written by comic legend Garth Ennis. The Boys is a dark humored, sexual, and very violent story about a group of normal people who have to enforce the super powered community.
The Boys will center on a team of three men and one woman who have been affected by the super powered community or were trained to kill. Their mission is to keep in place super powered people who may or may not care about their actions. This series is a parody of the superhero genre and culture making Cinemax the perfect network to air the show. “Supernatural” creator Eric Kripke is penning the series along with Ennis as co-executive producer with the series illustrator Darick Robertson.
Garth Ennis designed the lead to look and talk like actor Simon Pegg so one can wonder if they can get Pegg to play the lead. Even if it doesn’t stick to the comics the story is a dark one which will explore the more heinous side of the superhero lifestyle. The Boys will not be for the faint of heart.
