Legend of Zelda NX Rumor Roundup

April 21, 2016

Rumor #1 The Legend of Zelda is coming to both Wii U and NX

This one is less of a rumor now and more of practical decision when you think about it. Some of us may feel like we’ve been stringed along to buy a Wii U over the promise The Legend of Zelda’s release on the console. Considering its graphical styling, the hardware of the NX seems a more appropriate choice. There’s also precedence of this happening with Twilight Princess releasing on the GameCube and Wii.

Rumor #2 You can choose the gender of your Link

Nintendo has played around with the idea of female link for pretty long time as seen in the development notes in the Hyrule Historia. I absolutely enjoyed playing as Linkle in Hyrule Warriors with her fighting style similar to Bayonetta’s. Even though she isn’t the Legendary Hero in that tale, there is nothing in Zelda lore that states that the living embodiment of the Spirit of the Hero has to be exclusively male or that two heroes cannot occupy the same era. Her story clearly has some connection with the cyclical Hero of Courage. Also, this make sense as the current design, an androgynous Link, who sports longer hair than any previous incarnations, including side-bangs Link from the “Oracle” series.

Rumor #3 All other characters will be voiced except Link

This one I hope is true, while the Legend of Zelda has technically had voice overs since the Ocarina of Time, full voiced dialogue is honestly long overdue this game. I feel slightly anxious about this because the small tidbits of gibberish was really all they needed to greatly flesh out the personalities of the characters in the Legend of Zelda. And, a bad dubbing of a single line can make any good character instantly detested. Ah, I can see the flames of the dubs vs subs crowd off in the distance now.

It’s hard to say with certainty if any of these rumors are true but if recent trends in the series hold true, (Majora’s Mask, Twilight HD, Linkle) then we are in for a Hyrule that has never felt more organic.

Which do you think is true? Let us know in the comments below.

The new NX is slated for a late 2016, early 2017 release.
