In the 5 years since Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows was released in theaters, Robert Downey Jr. has been fighting artificial intelligence that he created and ultimately destroyed. Then he feuded with Captain America.
He’ll be taking a break from the Avengers and instead will team up with John Watson in the third Sherlock Holmes film. Production could happen by the end of the year with a script from Sherlock producer/co-writer Lionel Wigram and co-writer Drew Pearce (Iron Man 3, Mission Impossible-Rogue Nation)
We last saw Sherlock fake his “death” during the fight at Reichenbach Falls with his nemesis Moriarty, much to Watson's dismay. So while that plot point will have to be settled in the next film, little is known on anything else. Guy Ritchie, who directed the last two films is currently finishing up King Arthur. If production does go underway this year, perhaps we will be getting a double dose of Sherlock Holmes again on the small and big screen.
