Spawn 2 WHAT!!!!!
A former Marvel Artist brought us one of the biggest comics 1990s. That artist was former Spider-Man Artist Todd McFarlane and that comic was Spawn.
Spawn ran from 1992 – 2008 and in 1997 at the peak of the comic's popularity, New Line Cinema brought Spawn to the big screen. The film starred Michael Jai White, Martin Sheen and John Leguizamo and was directed by Mark A.Z. Dippe. The film ended up being a major flop at the theaters, despite the comic's popularity, with an overall take of $55 million which is only $14 million over the cost of the film. Like most comic book movies from the Nineties, it received a cult following.
Spawn is one of the better comic book movies of the Nineties. It stands up there with Batman and The Crow. With its over the top story and special effects, it really brought the comic book to life. Fans have all been wanting to know if we would be getting a sequel to the '97 film.
In an interview with comicbook.com, Spawn creator Todd McFarlane gave us the answer we have been looking for and that answer is............
There is a possibility that we will get a sequel to the '97 film. McFarlane said he had just finished the script for the film.
Regarding the character, McFarlane said:
“In the background, there’s this thing moving around, this boogeyman. That boogeyman just happens to be something that you and I, intellectually, know is Spawn. Will he look like he did in the first movie? No. Will he have a supervillain he fights? No. He’s going to be the spectre, the ghost.”
He also said that the film will be along the lines of "The Departed meets Paranormal Activity."
Not much more is known at this time but McFarlane wants to keep it a low budget film so whatever studio does give it the green light he can be the one to direct this film.
What do you think about this news? Are you excited that we finally will have a sequel to Spawn or is it too little too late and McFarlane should let Spawn stay buried?
Let us know what you think.
Till next time keep it NERDY!
