Comic Book Writer Darwyn Cooke Passes Away
Award-winning writer and artist, Darwyn Cooke passed away early May 14th after battling cancer. His works included Catwoman, Justice League: The New Frontier, and X-Force. Acclaimed for his unique art style, Cooke combines a retro style with modern styles creating a cartoonish, yet clean, pop-art look.
Cooke created the famous redesign of Catwoman-- classy yet lethal in leather and goggles-- in which the Dark Knight Rises costume, worn by Anne Hathaway, was based on. The design survived over ten years.
In addition to his DC and Marvel work, Cooke adapted Richard Stark’s Parker: The Hunter from the Donald Westlake Novel and worked as an animated for the Batman animated series.
His family attached a quote on his blog following their statement:
“Then we shall not be weary. Then we shall prevail.”
-- John F. Kennedy’s New Frontier speech
