Nintendo to Make Movies Soon
Last year Nintendo game designer Shigeru Miyamoto referred to Nintendo as an entertainment company, saying that movies aren’t off the table any longer. For those that haven’t followed Nintendo’s history of film… Well, be lucky. Back in 1993 there was a terrible Super Mario Bros. movie that had little to do with the games and everything to do with shoveling out a film to make money. Since then, Nintendo has been notoriously protective of their properties, famously refusing any other movies based on their characters.
Then it happened. Nintendo CEO Tatsumi Kimishima stated in an interview with Japanese magazine Asahi Shinbun released on May 15th that Nintendo would like to have its first movie ready in 2 to 3 years. But here’s the better news: they won’t be live action and Nintendo will be heavily involved, much like Ubisoft and the Assassin’s Creed movie. Can we expect a quality anime for the Legend of Zelda? I’m holding out hope for an F-Zero Netflix series.
