DC’s “Powerless” Mixes Superheroes and the Workplace
Ever wonder what goes on in the lives of civilians during a huge superhero battle? Ever think about the repercussions of fallen buildings, and cars that were slung off bridges? DC’s upcoming comedy has you covered.
The trailer, previously leaked and no longer available, opens up with the Crimson Fox fighting off an unknown evil foe. The fight leads to a train being derailed from an overpass. As it falls, it’s caught midair by the Crimson Fox and one of the passengers on the train is the main character Emily Locke (Vanessa Hudgens).
Emily works for an insurance company which deals with claims that pop-up from the destruction caused by these type of superhero battles. The office staff has a really well rounded cast with the likes of Danny Pudi (Community), Alan Tudyk (Firefly), Kate Micucci (Garfunkel and Oates) and Christina Kirk (the short lived A to Z).
The trailer provides some real funny visuals of what it’s like to live in a world with superheroes and how the destruction affects people living their everyday lives.
There is a reference to Wonder Woman and whether destruction from one of her battles should be considered an act of god. Aquaman is also mentioned while at the same time some visual references are provided to other DC characters like Batman and Superman, and Green Lantern and Hawkman on a Magazine. There is even a book written by Lex Luthor being read on screen.
The NBC show looks pretty promising for a workplace comedy set in the DC universe. It will be a mid-Season release for the network but so far only a pilot episode has been ordered. I really hope more episodes are ordered and who knows maybe even a crossover may happen with the DC universe on the CW.
