Fan Game for 30th Anniversary Metroid Amazes

August 7th marks the 30th anniversary of the release of Metroid and one fan decided to show us his love for the series in the best way possible: a remake of Metroid 2: The Return of Samus. The remake is more than just a graphical overhaul of the 1991 Gameboy release. Creator of Project AM2R made improvements to the gameplay as well. Here are a few features below.

  • Metroid Zero Mission style gameplay

  • Map system

  • Updated enemy AI

  • Minibosses

  • New areas

  • Challenging Metroid fights

  • Stackable beam system

  • Completely redrawn enemy and Metroid sprites

  • Log system with non-intrusive narrative

  • High quality soundtrack

Nintendo has a pretty strict track record for shutting down anything fan created, including an animated adaptation of The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, which even had the support of prominent voice actor Todd Haberkorn.

Of course, sometimes with good reason as some of the projects directly compete with the official releases that are still making money today. Now that this remake is gaining traction it’s really only a matter of time before Nintendo catches wind of it, lawyers up and serves a Cease & Desist notice.

While we at Nerdbot don’t condone piracy or the like, we’re also not the police and we ain’t no snitches.
