Rocko’s Modern Life premiered in September of 1993 and only made it 4 seasons, ending its run in November of 1996. In that short run it proved that a strange, crazy adult show in the vein of Ren & Stimpy but with simpler animation and more rational plots was still a fantastic concept. The show was just good fun, with a focus on sight gags and a weird feel that had few straight lines. It was great if you were a 1990’s kid (or teen… or adult…).
When it died, quite a few staff members jumped ship to be part of a little show you may have heard of called Spongebob Squarepants. But, rejoice! Rocko’s Modern Life is back! Sort of! Nickelodeon has greenlit a TV movie in the form of a one-hour animated film, dealing with an even more modern life. No word on who is or isn’t back aside from creator Joe Murray.
All that matter is Spunky.
