Metropolis is Alive with the Sound of Music

Musical TV shows and episodes aren't a new thing. From the ill-fated series “Cop Rock,” to tween juggernaut “Glee,” to more recently “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.” Perhaps one of my favorite musical episodes is “Once More with Feeling” from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. There’s something about breaking into song that helps express thoughts you just can’t speak and now the DC show universe will be heading in that direction.

With Supergirl making the move from CBS to The CW for its second season, it was only natural that it would crossover into other DC shows. This season, she will be joining the Flash in a two-part musical episode. While an air date and episode plot has not been announced, the musical episode will mainly use preexisting songs with possibly one original song.

Musicals are nothing new to those in Supergirl and Flash universe. Stars Melissa Benoist and Grant Gustin are both alums of Glee playing Marley Rose and Sebastian Smythe respectively. Plus with co-stars such Jeremy Jordan, Jesse L. Martin also having musical theater roots, it’ll be exciting to see their musical prowess in the superhero world.
