Are Remastered Games a Cop Out?

With all the recent video games releases, I've noticed a little bit of a trend in the past years. It seems that remastered games are starting to release on all current gen platforms.

The first big game I remember doing this was Halo with the Master Chief Collection, and it sold fairly well for them, too. Now it seems this trend of remastered games is an easy way to make a quick buck.

Another example of this is with Sony when they remastered The Last of Us which, just a year prior, came out with a game of the year edition before the PS4 was released. This is a extremely lazy way to make money. Sure it's fun to get that nostalgic feeling from playing old video games that you use to enjoy on the old gen consoles but, wouldn't you rather play something new and exciting?

From the looks of it, it doesn't seem like the remastered games trend is going to end anytime soon-- just look at Bioshock and Dead Rising, another two popular games that received remastering treatment that were not necessary. But both games' companies knew it would be a quick and safe way to make money.

I'm not completely against the idea of major companies remastering games but I do feel like they put a little too much time in making them, as opposed to trying something new or even continuing a fun franchise. If they just held the brakes on doing this, big gaming companies could focus on making another great hit that we all could enjoy and love.
