Here Come the Monsters!

June 21, 2017

Today Collider.com and various media outlets reported that as production for the next installment of Warner Brothers and Legendary Pictures' "Monster-verse" begins in Atlanta, the official synopsis and cast list have been released for the upcoming Godzilla project.

The whole "Monster-verse" concept was birthed in 2014 with the release of Godzilla and then further expanded with this years Kong: Skull Island.  Even though fans will have to wait a little longer to see the likes of King Kong and Godzilla battling it out in a no holds barred Kaiju fight to the death, the synopsis reveals a couple familiar foes of the world's most famous oversized reptile.

The synopsis reads as follows:

The new story follows the heroic efforts of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah.  When these ancient super-species—thought to be mere myths—rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance.

The addition of these classic Godzilla monsters should put a smiles on the faces of fans who were met with disappointment when the 2014 film decided to go with an original concept known as the MUTO (Massive Unidentified Terrestrial Organism) as the story's main antagonistic force.  Rest assured, plenty of buildings will be destroyed.

Director Michael Dougherty (Krampus) will be in charge of bringing this vision to life with a cast that includes Vera Farmiga (Bates Motel), Millie Bobby Brown (11 on Stranger Things), Bradley Whitford (Eric in Billy Madison), and Charles Dance (Tywin Lannister on Game Of Thrones).  Ken Watanabe and Sally Hawkins will also be coming back to the franchise.

For some time now we have been led to believe that the film will be entitled Godzilla: King Of All Monsters but the press release references no specific title.

There will definitely be some large footprints to fill as the project is set to destroy theaters on March 22. 2019.
