As I’ve gotten older I have found my gaming habits have changed dramatically, moving me away from all engrossing efforts that would take whole days away from me, to casual games that I can dip in and out of with a moment to spare.
The House of DaVinci fits brilliantly into this play style, presenting you with a stream of puzzles that you can take a crack at, then go away and ponder if you can’t get it on the first go.
It is also one of the most well presented apps available on the app store, with beautiful art work that really brings the world and the puzzles to life. The story that ties all this together isn’t the most inspired, being a simple ‘Help Leonardo by solving his puzzles’ affair, but no one comes here for the plot.
Then there is the elephant in the room, almost literally as it happens. While ‘DaVinci’ is a beautiful, fun puzzle game, anyone who’s a fan of the genre will surely have heard of, and suspect Blue Brain ripped off, the excellent ‘The Room’ trilogy by Fireproof games.
The similarities between the two are uncanny, with nigh on identical play styles, but the truth is that no one playing these games will care. Those who come to this game from ‘The Room’ will be doing so for one reason and one reason alone; because Firebox haven’t made a fourth chapter yet.
This is the ‘The Room’ sequel that everyone has been waiting for. It’s been two years now since Firebox released part three of their award wining game series, so no one can blame Blue Brain Games for meeting that demand, and a damn fine job they did too.
The app is currently only available iOS retailing at $4.99, which may seem a little steep for an app, but it will give you a good few hours of head scratching unless you’re a genius. Versions are being planned for Android, Steam, Kindle and the Mac app store later in the year, though no dates have yet been confirmed.
