A Fresh Set Of Eyes For Episode IX

Director Colin Trevorrow plans to start production on Star Wars Episode IX in January but the project is already making headlines.
An article published this week by the Hollywood Reporter indicates that a new writer named Jack Thorne has been hired to work on screenplay for the film. Trevorrow and Derek Connolly wrote a draft but the Reporter's sources claim Thorne will play a part in the process though no details on the extent of the rewrites have been confirmed.
Thorne is behind a few British television shows like National Treasure and The Last Panthers. Recently he's taken a dive into the realm of science fiction by writing for a series called Phillip K. Dick's Electric Dreams.
For those of you who see phrases like "new writer", "rewrites", and "fresh set of eyes", do not be worried. It is common practice in the movie business to bring in different writers to help out with a script. Don't be surprised if you even hear about more people getting brought in to aid in the writing process. Disney is going to do everything conceivable by the human mind to guarantee the critical and commercial success of Episode IX and if it requires assembling a Dream Team of history's great screenwriters (including bringing Billy Wilder back to life (if anyone could do it, I'd put money on Disney)), they will.
Considering what Disney did with Rogue One, rewrites can be a great thing.
Star Wars Episode IX is scheduled for a May 24th, 2019 release date.
